Who Are We?

BK Designs is a Florida based limited liability company that specializes in the design and distribution of products for remote control helicopters. The company was founded in late 2013 by Bert & Suzi Kammerer.

The first product introduced to the market by BK Designs was "BK Servo". BK servos are a relatively new product developed by Bert Kammerer, the project was started in early 2013 while Bert was working on the development of the Goblin 500 helicopter from SAB Heli Division. The Goblin 500 used mini size servos, but unfortunately every single one of these servos available on the market were just not what Bert wanted for testing, they either lacked speed, torque or they centered poorly. After some research, Bert realized that there was just no way to have a fast, strong and accurate servo with such a small motor, therefore the solution was to use a full size servo motor and fit it in a mini size servo case! The BK mini servo employs a full size motor in a mini case, this allows for blazing speeds combined with good centering and plenty of torque.

Thanks to the success and popularity of the mini servo, a few months later Bert decided to design a new full size servo, the coreless full size servo not only features a clever design, but it is also lightning fast and very precise. The best part of the coreless full size servo is its price point, just under $100.00, this servo offers a incredible value never seen before in the RC helicopter industry. Finally, for those of you who like brushless, we now also have a new brushless line! The brushless cyclic servo has an incredible amount of torque and is suitable for any application from hard core 3D to speed or F3C flying and the new brushless tail servo is one of the fastest in its class!

BK Servo continues to evolve as new servo sizes are added to the product line.

In early 2014, BK Designs was appointed exclusive distribution for Spartan RC in the Americas. Spartan RC specializes in gyro stabilization systems. Spartan RC products are widely known as some of the industry's best.

On April 2, 2015, BK Designs announced the launch of a new product line called Switch Rotorblades. Switch Rotorblades are based on a well proven NACA airfoil, the airfoil has been subjected to extensive testing and development, the blades employ no gimmicks, they are high performance rotorblades with the stability and agility required for today’s demanding pilot. They perform exceptionally well for all flying styles including 3D, sport and speed pilots alike, and they’re reasonably priced.
Switch Rotorblades are manufactured by Fun-Key Aeroplane Models in Hong Kong, the leading manufacturer of carbon fiber rotor blades for R/C helicopters.

On July 4, 2017, BK Designs opened SAB USA as a joint partnership with SAB, one of the leading manufacturers of RC Helicopters in the world. SAB USA was created to better manage the distribution and support of SAB products in the continental US, provide better dealer and customer support as well as advertising, MAP pricing enforcement, event attendance and promotion, team support and much more.
The owners of SAB, Stefano Baiardi and Enrico Bernabei as well as the owners of BK Designs, Bert and Suzi Kammerer have had a long standing friendship as well as business relationship. Bert and Suzi worked for SAB in the past, Bert himself brings a world of knowledge about SAB products. He has not only worked for SAB in the past, but he has also been a factory pilot since the creation of the SAB Goblin line of helicopters. Suzi Kammerer was also an employee of SAB in the past working with dealers and distributors and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in business finance and management.

About Bert Kammerer

Bert Kammerer has been involved in RC for over 33 years, helicopters specifically since 2004. He has worked in design, research and development for many industry leaders, such as Align, Miniature Aircraft, Horizon Hobby, Outrage, SAB Heli Division and Byron Fuels to name a few. Bert has also been involved in competition. He competed at the XFC (Extreme Flight Championships) where he finished in the top 7 during 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. He also competed at the “World Micro Heli Cup” in Chicago finishing 4th and in the “2008 Align Cup and Competition” where he finished 2nd. He has also taken 1st place for two consecutive at the XFC team competition and also 1st place in the Synchro Competition at “3D Masters” 2011 in the Netherlands.

Bert also produced a show series called "SmackTalk RC" with Bobby Watts and continues to make instructional videos for new pilots in the hobby. He is part of the board of directors of “TORCHS” (The Orlando Remote Control Helicopter Society) and the founder and main organizer of the “Orlando Helicopter Blowout”, the 2nd largest RC helicopter event in the United States.

Bert travels all over the world performing demos and representing SAB Heli Division as well as his own brands.

About Suzi Kammerer

Suzi Kammerer has been involved in the RC industry since 2005. Her roots in the industry started with vBlades in Springfield, Missouri where she worked doing anything from taking orders, to helping with the team, to even sanding blade cores and checking for weight and balance.

In 2008, Suzi was offered the position of "Customer Service Manager" at a large online retailer based in South Florida and within a few months of her employment she was given the task to start a new distribution company. Suzi was instrumental to the development of "Ready RC", a distribution company specializing in RC helicopter products and was also responsible for the success of many startup brands, including EDGE Rotor blades. Within a year of starting Ready RC, Suzi had arguably turned EDGE Rotorblades into the world's most successful RC helicopter rotor blade brand in the late 2000's.
